13. Removal and Installation of the Side, Bottom, and Chain Return Wear Strips and
Chain Guard, Take Up End Assembly.
NOTE: All item numbers refer to Figure 15.
The removal procedure is accomplished following the steps outlined:
o Remove the chain assembly.
o Remove the chain guards (1) by removing the four screws (2), lockwashers (3)
flat washers (4), nuts (5), and retaining strip (6) from each chain guard.
o Remove the ten screws (10) from each of the side wear strips.
Pry up and
remove the wear strips from the take up end section (9).
o Remove the two screws (10), chain return wear strips (11), and spacer (12)
from the take up section (9).
o Remove the fourteen screws (13) and the bottom wear strip (14) by prying the
wear strip from the take up end section.
The installation procedure is accomplished following the steps outlined:
o Thoroughly clean the wear strip mounting surfaces of the take up end section
with solvent (Item 19, Appx. D), ensuring all particles are removed.
o Roughen the underside of the wear strips (8). Apply adhesive (Item 1, Appx.
D) to the roughened side of the wear strips and mounting surfaces of the take
up section (9). Allow the adhesive to dry until tacky before installation.
Apply sealing compound (Item 53, Appx. D) to the threads of the screws (7).
o Complete the installation process by reversing the removal procedure.
14. Removal and Installation of the Chain Assembly.
NOTE: All item numbers refer to Figure 16.
Remove the conveyor chain assembly by loosening the chain tension and breaking the
chain at the master link.
Rotate the conveyor manual hand crank (2) until the
chain (1) is free of the sprocket.
