MAINTENANCE OF THE M113 PER CARRIER - OD1601 LESSON 2/TASK 2
(i) Inspect links, shafts, bracket, pins, keys, arms, and other parts of the
range selector for excessive wear at connection points, distortion, cracks, nicks,
grooves, scratches, and burrs.
Remove burrs and scratches.
If damage cannot be
repaired, replace the part.
(3) Transfer Gearcase.
(a) Inspect the transfer gearcase mounts for cracks and deformation.
Replace
mounts that show either of these defects.
(b) Inspect cap screws, washers, and nuts for cracks, distortion, and damaged
threads. Replace cap screws, washers, and nuts that show any of these defects.
(c) Inspect the transfer gearcase oil level gage rod for excessive wear and
deformation. Replace rod if it shows either of these defects.
(d) Inspect the transfer gearcase/engine quick disconnect bushing for bore
wear, grooves, and scratches. Remove grooves and scratches. Replace bushing that
shows deep grooves, scratches or excessive wear.

Fuel System.
(1) Inspect the mechanical fuel pump housing and mounting flanges for cracks.
Replace the pump if it shows either of these defects.
(2) Inspect the fuel pump shaft for binding and deformation.
Replace the pump if
it shows either of these defects.
(3) Inspect the fuel filler cap for cracks, deformation, and lack of spring
tension in the vent. Replace the cap if it shows either of these defects.
(4) Inspect
the
fuel
filler
chain
for
general
condition.
Replace
chain
if
defective.
(5) Inspect the fuel filler assembly for cracks and deformation.
Replace the
filler assembly if it has either of these defects.
