Install three new nuts (1) on the studs (2) until about 1/4 to
3/8 of an inch of the stud's threads shows below the nuts and
take the rag off the gearbox opening (3).
CAUTION
CAREFULLY LOWER THE STARTER (4) IN PLACE. OTHER
PARTS CAN BE DAMAGED IF THE STARTER HITS THEM.
While holding the starter by the handle (6), align the wide
part of the holes (7) in the hub (8) with the three nuts (5)
on the mounting surface. Then lower the starter (4) and turn
it clockwise until it stops, with the narrow part of the holes
under the nuts.
Make sure you have seated the hub on the
mounting surface. Torque the nuts between 35 - 45 foot-pounds
(fig. 1-62).

Place the lug 3W108-E1 (2) on terminal 3L101-1 (3) and install
a new lockwasher (4) and nut (1).
Then, you must hold the
bottom nut (5) and torque the top nut between 21 - 27 inch-
pounds. Next, place lug 3W109E1 (8) and the two lugs 3W101-
2E2 (9) on terminal 3L101-2 (10) and install a new lockwasher
(11) and nut (6). Then, you must hold the bottom nut (12) and
torque the top nut (6)
