b. Weapon. In the succeeding paragraphs, we will follow our fictitious
individual through the troubleshooting procedures for several malfunctions
within the weapons subsystem of the turret.
(1) TOW ELEVATION DRIVE DOES NOT RESPOND TO HANDSTATION INPUTS. For
this troubleshooting procedure, we will follow only those pathways that lead
us to the conclusion that the turret elevation drive is faulty.
One afternoon, an M3 CFV returns to the motor pool with the above mentioned
malfunction.
The task of troubleshooting this malfunction is assigned to
SGT Stryker. The first thing that SGT Stryker does is to read the DA Form
2404; then he talks with the crew. After determining that the malfunction
exists as written, he locates the troubleshooting procedure in the TM and
reads through the Initial Setup section of the troubleshooting procedure.
For this malfunction, SGT Stryker will need one 45T10 assistant, and TMs
9-2350-252-10-1 and 9-2350-252-10-2. The vehicle should be parked with the
engine off, turret power shutdown, and the weapons unloaded and safe.
Once the necessary personnel and references have been gathered together and
the vehicle configured according to the procedures cited above, SGT Stryker
first places the MASTER POWER and the TURRET POWER switches to the ON
position. Now he raises the TOW launcher, in accordance with the procedures
contained on page 2-362 of TM 9-2350-252-10-2. Once the launcher has been
raised, SGT Stryker is directed to squeeze the palm switches (3) (figure 18,
on the following page). At this point he is asked whether, with no input to
the gunner's handstation, the TOW launcher moves to an elevation limit or
another limit other than the position of the 25mm gun. The answer to this
question is yes; therefore, SGT Stryker will follow the yes arrow to the
next box of instructions.
In the next box of instructions, SGT Stryker is directed to stow the TOW
launcher, following the procedures contained on page 2-362 of TM 9-2350-
