M2/M3 BFV: TROUBLESHOOTING - OD1610 - LESSON 2/TASK 1
on the SETCOM.
Therefore, SGT Elliott is directed to turn to the fault
number index.
SGT Elliott looks in the fault number index and finds that this number
indicates that the turret distribution box (TDB) is faulty.
The fault
number index also refers him to page 3-716 of the TM. He turns to this page
and finds that it contains test procedures to test for a faulty TDB.
Once again SGT Elliott looks in the Initial Setup section to find out
exactly how the vehicle should be configured to perform these test
procedures. For these test procedures, the vehicle should be parked and the
engine off; turret power should be shut down, and all weapons unloaded and
safe.
After the vehicle has been so configured, SGT Elliott begins the test
procedure.
First, he performs test number 2390 between plug 2W203P1 and
jack 2W203J1 at diagnostic panel jack-J4.
Next, SGT Elliott is asked if
cable 2W203 is good? In this case the cable is good, therefore, he follows
the yes arrow to the next box of instructions.
In the next box of instructions, SGT Elliott is directed to perform test
number 2391 on jack 2W203J1 at diagnostic panel jack J4. Again, SGT Elliott
is asked if cable 2W203 is good and again it is. Following the yes arrow,
SGT Elliott is directed to replace the turret distribution box, following
the procedures on page 5-105, TM 9-2350-252-20-2-2.
Upon completion of the turret distribution box replacement procedures, rerun
the troubleshooting procedures to ensure that the malfunction has been
corrected and that no other malfunctions exist. Be sure to fill out the DA
Form 2404 and to clean-up and stow all tools and equipment.
Faulty TDB or 2W3.
Let's assume that while troubleshooting this
malfunction, SGT Elliott had been referred to a follow-on procedure as a
result of the troubleshooting. Instead of receiving a fault message index
that required the replacement of component(s), SGT Elliott had received a
fault message index that required the performing of a follow-on procedure.
For this example, assume that he received fault message number 252025.
