M2/M3 BFV: TROUBLESHOOTING - OD1610 - LESSON 2/TASK 1
One afternoon SGT Schmidt and some of the other mechanics are sitting around
talking when a DA Form 2404 comes in with the malfunction TURRET POWER IS ON
WITH THE TURRET POWER SWITCH OFF. The motor sergeant assigns SGT Schmidt to
troubleshoot and correct this malfunction. The first thing that SGT Schmidt
does is read the DA Form 2404.
After reading DA Form 2404, SGT Schmidt
talks with the crew to get additional information on the malfunction. Once
he is satisfied that a malfunction exists, he looks up the malfunction in
the fault symptom index. He finds that the troubleshooting procedures for
this particular malfunction are on page 3-240 of the TM.
After SGT Schmidt locates the troubleshooting procedures in the TM, he reads
through the Initial Setup section of the troubleshooting procedure to find
out what tools, personnel, and references are required, and the condition of
the equipment. After reading through this section, SGT Schmidt finds that
he will need one 45T10 (BFV Turret Mechanic) assistant, TMs 9-2350-252-10-1
and 9-2350-252-10-2. He also finds that the vehicle should be parked with
the engine stopped, turret power shut down, and the weapons unloaded and
safe.
Once the necessary tools, assistance, and TMs have been gathered together,
and the vehicle configured according to the Initial Setup, SGT Schmidt is
ready to begin the actual troubleshooting procedure. First, he places the
MASTER POWER and the TURRET POWER switches to the OFF position. SGT Schmidt
is then asked if the TURRET BACK-UP POWER ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT is ON. For this
example, it is on; therefore, he will follow the yes arrow to the next box
of instructions.
In the next box of instructions, SGT Schmidt is directed to replace the
relay box assembly. The procedures for replacing the relay box assembly can
be found on page 5-173 of TM 9-2350-252-20-2-2.

determine if the malfunction has been corrected and/or if there are any
additional malfunctions.
Once satisfied that the malfunction has been
