M2/M3 BFV: TROUBLESHOOTING - OD1610 - LESSON 2/TASK 1
sample, we are going to follow the troubleshooting pathways that leads us to
the conclusion that there are no faults within the system.
One morning shortly after reporting to work, SGT Pulver is informed by the
motor sergeant that he will be troubleshooting this malfunction. SGT Pulver
reads over the DA Form 2404 and talks with the crew of the vehicle. Since
he is satisfied that a malfunction exists, he turns to the troubleshooting
procedures in the TM.
After locating the troubleshooting procedures, SGT Pulver carefully reads
over the Initial Setup section of the troubleshooting procedures to
determine what tools, equipment, personnel, and references will be needed to
perform the troubleshooting procedures. He also checks this section to see
if there are any special configuration requirements.
For this particular
procedure, SGT Pulver finds that he will need one 45T10 (BFV Turret
Mechanic) assistant, and TMs 9-2350-252-10-1 and 9-2350-252-10-2.
The
vehicle should be parked with the engine stopped, turret power shutdown, and
the weapons unloaded and safe.
Once the above personnel and equipment have been gathered together and the
vehicle has been configured according to the required procedure, SGT Pulver
is ready to begin troubleshooting.
First, he is directed to place the
MASTER POWER and the TURRET POWER switches to the ON position.
Now raise
the TOW launcher.
Once the TOW launcher has been erected, SGT Pulver places the ARM-SAFE-RESET
switch (3) (figure 16 on the following page) first to the RESET and then to
the SAFE positions.
He is now directed to press and release the TOW button (4) (figure 16). Now
he squeezes the two gunner's handstation palm switches (5) (figure 17 on the
following page).
He then moves the handstation up or down in small
increments. At this point, SGT Pulver has his assistant, PFC Balch, observe
the TOW launcher braking action when the handstation movement is stopped.
These observations are made using both the high and low rates.
At this
point, SGT Pulver is asked if the TOW launcher drive system brakes when the
handstation is stopped.
