NOTE:
This seal has the word "TOP" to mark the top of the seal.
Install the Plenum-To-Engine Plain Seal.
Begin this
installation process by pulling back the lip (2) of the seal
(1) and installing the inner clamp (4).
Then put the outer
clamp (3) on the seal with the clamp screw (6) at the top.
Next slide the seal, top up, on the rim (7) until the outer
edge (8) lines up all the way around on the yellow line (9).
With the seal installed on the engine, pull back the lip (2)
and position the clamp nut (5) at the 5 o'clock position and
torque the clamp nut between 60 - 85 inch-pounds (fig. 1-53).
Figure 1-53.
Plenum-To-Engine Plain Seal, First View.
If the nut (1) comes to the end of it; threads before you have
tightened it, make sure the seal (2) has not slipped of the
rim (3). When you have correctly installed the seal, a slight
bulge appears around the clamp (4) on the seal (2). Inspect
the seal to see if the edge (5) of the seal is still on the
line (6). If the seal overlaps or is behind the line, loosen
the clamp nut (1) and reinstall the seal.
After you have
correctly installed the seal, install the cover (7) over the
screen (8) (fig. 1-54).
