Engine AFES Tubing and Nozzles - Removal and Installation.
This part of the subcourse will teach you how to remove and install the
engine AFES tubing and nozzles. Before attempting to begin the process of
removing and installing the engine AFES tubing and nozzles, the following
conditions must be met:
o The engine AFES must be deactivated before any work is attempted.
Refer to Part C of this subcourse for a review of the procedures
used to deactivate the AFES.
o The projectile racks must be removed from the compartment. Refer to
Chapter
11,
TM
9-2350-267-20,
for
projectile
rack
removal
procedures. You need not review the technical manual for completion
of this subcourse.
o The vehicle powerpack must be removed in accordance with Chapter 3,
TM 9-2350-267-20.
The removal and installation of the vehicle
powerpack must be accomplished under the supervision of a Self-
Propelled Field Artillery System Mechanic, MOS 63D.

Turn MAINTenance switch on engine T/A panel to the
vertical position.

To prevent injury from accidental manual discharge
of cylinders, install locking pin in the valve
actuator guard of each cylinder. Also, install and
hand tighten the anti-recoil plug in each valve
discharge port.
