At this point, the AFES is deactivated, the powerpack is removed, and the
projectile racks have been removed. Now you are prepared to begin removal
of the engine AFES tubing and nozzles. Be sure to note that the tubing for
the engine AFES is located in both the engine and crew compartments.
Use Figure 23 to identify the items referenced in the removal and
installation procedures listed below and proceed with the removal process of
the engine AFES tubing located in the crew compartment.
o Standing in the crew compartment and facing the front of the
vehicle, you will notice a cluster of four fire extinguishers. You
will be concerned with the two lower fire extinguishers which are
the engine fire extinguishers. Engine fire extinguisher no. 2 (Item
6) is located on the right side and engine fire extinguisher no. 1
(Item 5) is located on the left side.
o Loosen the bottle straps on engine fire extinguisher no. 2 (Item 6)
and rotate the bottle to give you access for removal of the elbow
(Item 2).
o Now disconnect the tubing from elbows (Items 1 and 2) and remove the
elbows from the discharge plug adapters (Items 3 and 4).
o You must now remove the plug adapters (Items 3 and 4) and install
the anti-recoil plugs in the discharge ports of engine cylinder
