MAINTENANCE OF FORKLIFTS - OD1660 - LESSON 1/TASK 2
NOTE
Dry cleaning solvent (P-D-680), used to clean the
parts, is toxic and flammable.
Wear protective
goggles and gloves and use only in a well
ventilated area.
Avoid contact with the skin,
eyes, and clothes and do not breathe the vapors.
Do not use near an open flame or excessive heat,
and do not smoke in the area while it is being
used.
Failure to do so could cause serious
injury. If you become dizzy while using the dry
cleaning solvent, get fresh air immediately, and
get medical attention.
If the solvent comes in
contact with skin or clothes, flush with large
amounts of water.
If the solvent comes in
contact with the eyes, wash the eyes with water
and obtain medical aid immediately.
(2) Troubleshooting the Malfunction:
UNEVEN OR ERRATIC SERVICE
BRAKES.
Provided below are the steps that are performed when
troubleshooting for this symptom.
Step 1.
The mechanic should first check to see if the air pressure
is the same in each tire; it should be 45 psi. If the air pressure
is not 45 psi, he should adjust the tire pressure until it is
correct.
Step 2.
The hydraulic brake valve should then be checked for leaks.
If the brake valve is leaking, replace it. If it is okay, he should
perform the next step.
Step 3.
Be should place 6x6 by 18 inches wooden blocks
at each
wheel to
prevent the vehicle from moving.
The shipping
lock pin
should be
removed from the storage area under the operator's
seat and
installed
in the chassis. He should also make sure that the
brake is
applied.
WARNING
Before raising the wheel off the ground, be sure
that the shipping lock pin is installed. Failure
to do so may cause the vehicle to turn and slip
off the jack or jack stands which could cause-
serious injury or death.
