MAINTENANCE OF FORKLIFTS - OD1660 --LESSON 1/TASK 2
(g) Always  operate  the  vehicle  at  a  safe  speed,  avoiding
overloading and sudden stops.
Don't tilt the load out beyond the
vertical position of the mast when the load is elevated, unless the
load is over a stack.
(h) Extreme care must be taken when using starting fluid as
starting fluid is toxic and highly flammable and the container is
pressurized to act as an expellent.
DON'T heat the container and
don't discharge the starting fluid in a confined area or near an open
flame.  Also, DON'T discard the used container in an open flame.
(i) When using dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 to clean parts, do
not use it near an open flame or excessive heat.  The flash point is
138 F and is potentially dangerous to personnel and property.

complete

of
all
troubleshooting  and  maintenance  procedures  for
the  4000  pound  capacity  rough-terrain  forklift

(1) Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services.
(a) Parking Brake Linkage.
Check the  linkage for loose or
missing hardware.  If the adjusting knob does not tighten enough then
adjust the linkage.
(b) Service Brake.  Inspect the pads and if they are 3/32 of an
inch or less, replace them.  Check to see if the brake pedal has 1/4
to 1 inch free travel and is at least two inches from the floor when
it is fully applied.  Service the breathers by removing and immersing
them in solvent P-D-680, then dry them with compressed air.
