(d) Testing. The hydraulic side shift cylinder is tested using
the same procedures given for the tilt cylinder in paragraph
6d(l)(b), beginning on page 19.
(6) Hydraulic Extension Cylinder.
(a) The hydraulic extension cylinder is
a double-acting
cylinder that is mounted between the mast and the mast boom.
(b) This cylinder extends or retracts the forks to assist in
reaching or maneuvering the load until it is resting against the
carriage.
(c) Cleaning and Inspecting.
1 All metal parts are to be cleaned thoroughly, using solvent
P-D-680, or equal. Ensure that all parts are dried thoroughly.
2 The parts are to
inspected for wear, scored areas,
scratches, nicks and burrs.
Also, the cylinders are checked for
cracks and distortion.
3 All defective parts are to be replaced.
(d) Testing.
When testing the hydraulic extension cylinder,
the same procedures are to be followed as given in paragraph
6d(l)(b), beginning on page 19.
NOTE
Upon reassembly, use new packing.
The rod end
nut is to be torqued to 170 to 180 ft-lbs.

is equipped with a filter contamination indicator (figure 10 on the
following page) mounted on the top of the reservoir and in place of
the former filter cover plate.
The purpose of the contamination
indicator is to signal when the main hydraulic oil filters in "by-
pass" and are no longer serviceable.
