MAINTENANCE OF FORKLIFTS - OD1660 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
5 The oscillating check valve should be checked for leakage,
cracks and damage. It should also be replaced if damaged or leaking.
A slight leak will cause the valve to malfunction.
6 The hydraulic oscillating cylinder is tested in a similar
manner as that of the tilt cylinder (see paragraph 6d(l)(b)),
beginning on page 19).
(5) Hydraulic Side Shaft Cylinder.
(a) The hydraulic side shaft cylinder is of a double-acting
type. It is mounted on the fork carriage.
(b) This cylinder is also activated by the control valve and
shifts the forks from side to side.
NOTE
The distance between the forks is manually
adjusted by disengaging the fork locks and moving
the forks to the left or right to obtain the
correct distance.
(c) Cleaning and Inspecting.
1 Clean the side shift cylinder and all metal parts
thoroughly, using solvent P-D-680, or equal.
All parts should be
dried thoroughly.
2 The parts should
be
inspected
for
wear,
scored
areas,
scratches, nicks and burrs.
3 The cylinder should be inspected for cracks and distortion.
4 All defective parts should be replaced.
NOTE
Upon reassembly, use new packing.
end nut to 170 to 180 ft-lbs.
