MAINTENANCE OF FORKLIFTS - OD1660 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
d Repeat
the
above
procedures
for
the
head
end
of
the
cylinder.
e The piston may be operated as necessary for wear in.
f The piston rod will extend with a maximum of 15 psi on
the piston and the piston rod will retract with a maximum of 25 psi
on the rod side of the piston.
2 Piston Leakage Test.
a To perform this test, first fill the cylinder with oil.
Then seal the rod end and load the head end of the piston to not less
than 2000 psi and hold this pressure for 15 minutes.
The packing
gland should be tightened just tight enough to stop leakage.
b Measure and record the travel of the piston during the
first 15 minutes.
c Repeat
the
same
procedures
for
the
rod
end
of
the
cylinder.
d The maximum piston rod drift must not exceed one inch per
hour.
3 Maintenance.
Inspect the hydraulic lift cylinders for
cracks, breaks, worn pins, and leaks. Report defective cylinders to
intermediate direct support (IDS) maintenance.
(2) Hydraulic Slave Cylinder.
The hydraulic slave cylinder is a
double-acting cylinder that is mounted on the forklift frame and
connected to the mast.
This cylinder works in conjunction with the
tilt cylinder.
NOTE
The Army model 200 and the Army model 222
cylinders are of identical construction and have
identical components.
The cylinder used on the
Army model 202 has slightly different internal
components,
but
maintenance
procedures
are
similar.
The hydraulic slave cylinder for the
Army model 202 is illustrated in TM 10-3930-242-
34P/2.
