M2/M3 BFV: TROUBLESHOOTING - OD1610 - LESSON 2/TASK 1
that no additional malfunctions exist.
In this instance, the malfunction
was corrected and no additional malfunctions existed. Finally, SGT Rhodes
stows all tools and equipment, re-configures the vehicle according to the
TM, and completes DA Form 2404.
c. Auxiliary Subsystem. In the paragraphs that follow, we will cover
two of the possible malfunctions that may be encountered in this section of
the turret system.
25mm VANEAXIAL FAN DOES NOT OPERATE AT ALL. For this malfunction, we will
follow only those troubleshooting pathways that leads us to the conclusion
that wiring harness 2W203 is defective.
One afternoon, after participating in a live fire exercise, an M3 returns to
the company motor pool with the malfunction cited above.
The task of
troubleshooting the malfunction falls to SGT Wade.
The first things that
SGT Wade does are to read DA Form 2404 and talk with the crew of the
vehicle.
Once he has gathered all available information concerning the
malfunction, he looks up the troubleshooting procedures in the TM. For this
task, he will need a 45T10 assistant, and TMs 9-2350-252-10-1 and 9-2350-
252-10-2.
To perform these procedures, the vehicle should be parked with
the engine stopped, the turret shut down, and the weapons unloaded and safe.
When the vehicle has been configured for testing and the necessary
assistance, TMs, and equipment gathered together, SGT Wade begins the
troubleshooting procedure by first moving the MASTER POWER and TURRET POWER
switches to the ON positions.
Once these switches are ON, he places the
FAN/LAMP TEST (3) (figure 23 on the following page) switch to the FAN
position.
At this point in the troubleshooting procedure, he is asked if
the 25mm vaneaxial fan operates. Since the answer to this question is no,
SGT Wade will follow the no arrow to the next box of instructions.
In the next box of instructions, SGT Wade is directed to place the MASTER
POWER and the TURRET POWER switches to the OFF positions and to perform STE-
M1/FVS test number 2600.
The procedures for performing this test can be
found on page 3-455 of the TM.
