MAINTENANCE OF THE M113 PER CARRIER - OD1601 LESSON 1/TASK 1
(2) M113A2 Carrier.
On the M113A2 carrier, two external fuel tanks (figure 4)
are located on the left and right sides of the rear hull plate. These tanks are
connected by a crossover system to ensure constant fuel supply for the engine under
all operating conditions. Unused fuel is returned from the fuel pump to the tanks
by fuel return tubes connected to each tank.
Four fuel shut-off valves, two at
each tank, control the engine fuel supply and return lines. Each tank has a drain
plug on the bottom for complete draining of fuel. A fuel quantity transmitter, in
each tank, connects to a fuel quantity selector switch on the instrument panel.
The fuel quantity selector switch shifts the fuel quantity reading from either the
right or left to a single fuel indicator on the instrument panel.
