MAINTENANCE OF THE M113 PER CARRIER - OD1601 LESSON 1/TASK 1
2.
M113 Major Components
a. Powertrain (figure 1).
Power is transferred from the engine to the
transmission through the transfer gearcase.
The transmission is coupled to the
steering control differential by a propeller shaft. Power from the differential is
transferred through output shafts to the left and right final drives which drive
the track sprockets. The powerplant (engine, transfer gearcase, and transmission)
is removed and installed as a unit.
Mounting points and quick disconnect type
connectors for fuel and oil tubes and wiring harnesses permit removal and
installation of the powerplant in minimal time.
To replace the engine, transfer
gearcase, or transmission, the powerplant must be removed from the carrier. Final
drives are removed or installed from outside the carrier.
