MAINTENANCE OF THE M113 PER CARRIER - OD1601 LESSON 1/TASK 1
b. Fuel System (M113A1 and M113A2 Series) (figure 2 on the previous page).
The
fuel system consists of an engine driven fuel pump, fuel injectors, fuel lines,
supply tank, and primary and secondary fuel filters. Fuel supply and return lines
The fuel pump draws fuel from the
supply tank through the primary filter, and forces it under pressure through the
secondary filter. From the secondary filter, the fuel is forced through the fuel
inlet passage in the engine cylinder head to the injectors. Surplus fuel from the
injectors returns to the supply tank by way of passages in the cylinder heads and
the fuel return lines.
Circulation of the returning fuel serves to cool the
injectors and carries off any air in the system.
(1) M113A1 Series.
For all carriers (except the M577A1 and M577A2), the fuel
compartment or fuel tank (figure 3) is located in the left rear corner of the
carrier.
