MAINTENANCE OF THE M113 PER CARRIER - OD1601 LESSON 2/TASK 1
CAUTION
This
causes
coolant
temperature
to
drop
below
operating
temperature and is detrimental to the life of the engine.
Engine should run at 1,000 to 1,200 rpm under no-load
conditions for prolonged operation.
f. Governed No-load Test.
Run the engine until normal operating temperature is
reached. With the transmission in neutral, gradually open the throttle until the
accelerator is fully depressed.
Engine speed will generally exceed 3,000 rpm
momentarily, then stabilize at 2,925 to 2,975 rpm. If the governor repeatedly cuts
in and out or surges at this speed, adjustments are required; notify intermediate
direct support (IDS) personnel.
CAUTION
Engine speed must not be permitted to exceed 3,000 rpm for
more than two or three seconds in the event of governor
malfunction.
g. Stall Test. Perform a stall test when there is doubt that the powerplant is
producing maximum power, and to determine whether engine or transmission is at
fault.
(2) Operate the engine and transmission until normal operating temperature is
reached on the engine coolant temperature indicator.
(3) Apply and lock the brakes.
(4) Place the transmission range selector in range 2-3.
(5) Set the engine throttle for maximum rpm.
