TROUBLESHOOTING THE HMMWV - OD1616 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
Step 1. Check for correct tire pressure. To check for proper tire
pressure, refer to page 2-31 of TM 9-2320-280-10.
If the tire
pressure is not up to standards or exceeds the standards, adjust the
pressure.
Step 2.
Check the suspension and steering components, refer to
malfunction 30, WHEEL VIBRATION OR POOR DIRECTIONAL STABILITY, steps
6 and 7, page 2-23 of the TM.
CAUTION
Do not loosen slotted nut to install the cotter
pin. Doing this may cause damage to equipment.
Step 3.
Check the mounting of the tie rod or radius rod to the
geared hub steering arm.
Remove and discard the cotter pin.
Back
off the slotted nut and retighten to 80 ft-lb.
If the cotter pin
hole is not aligned with the nut slots, advance the nut until the
cotter pin can be installed. Then install the cotter pin.
Step 4.
If the cause of the malfunction
has
still
not
been
determined, notify IDS/IGS maintenance.
(2) Troubleshooting the Malfunction:
HARD STEERING.
Step 1. Check for the correct tire pressure.
If the tire pressure
is not correct, adjust it.
to the proper level and check for leaks. Refer to LO 9-2320-280-12
Step 3.
Check the drivebelts for frays, cracks, and fluid
Replace any damaged or contaminated drivebelts.
Refer to paragraphs 3-74 and 3-75 on pages 3-122 and 3-124 of the TM.
Step 4.
Check the drivebelts for the proper tension.
Follow the
procedures contained in paragraph 3-76, page 3-126 of the TM when
checking and adjusting the drivebelts.
