TROUBLESHOOTING THE HMMWV - OD1616 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
Step 2.
Inspect the parking brake caliper brake pads for
serviceability. The minimum thickness is 1/8 in. If either pad does
not meet the thickness specification, replace both pads following the
procedures contained in paragraph 7-3, page 7-4 of the TM.
Step 3.
Check the caliper for binding or dragging.
Remove the
caliper and check for binding push pins following the procedures
contained in paragraph 7-3, page 7-4 of the TM. Lubricate the push
pins with grease.
(2) Troubleshooting the Malfunction:
DECREASED BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL
OR SLOW RETURN.
Step 1.
Check the brake pedal return spring for wear or evidence of
damage.
If the spring is damaged, replace it.
Step 2. Check the brake pedal bushings for wear or damage.
If the
bushings are damaged, replace them.
Step 3. Check for restricted
brake lines. If the lines are
damaged
or restricted, replace them following the procedures contained in
paragraph 7-13, page 7-30 of the TM.
Step 4.
Check the hydro-boost.
Depress the brake pedal several
times to exhaust the accumulator pressure.
Now, depress the brake
pedal and start the engine. The brake pedal should fall, then push
back against the operator's foot.
If the hydro-boost is not
operating properly, replace it following the procedures contained in
paragraph 7-12, page 7-26 of the TM.
Step 5.
Check the brake calipers for binding as a result of
corrosion or dirt. Check the brake rotors for free movement. If the
rotors do not move freely, remove the calipers following the
procedures contained in paragraph 7-9, page 7-20 of the TM. Once the
calipers are removed, clean and lubricate the guide pins with grease.
