Step 3.
If the cause of the malfunction
has
still
not
been
determined, notify IDS/IGS maintenance.
(2) Troubleshooting the Malfunction:
TRANSFER CASE NOISY.
Step 1.
Check the transfer case fluid level, referring to LO 9-2320-
280-12.
Add fluid if necessary.
Step 2. If the fluid level in the transfer case was adequate or if
after adding fluid, the malfunction still exists, notify IDS/IGS
maintenance.

Troubleshooting the Malfunction:
Step 1.
Check the propeller shaft for any build up of foreign
material or damage which would interfere with operation. Remove any
foreign material or replace the propeller shaft following the
procedures contained in paragraph(s) 6-2, page 6-2, or 6-4, page 6-6
of the TM.
Step 2.
Check the propeller shaft mounting.
The front propeller
shaft bearing strap capscrews should be tightened to 13 to 18 ft-lb.
The rear propeller shaft companion flange capscrews should be
tightened to 60 ft-lb.
The rear propeller shaft U-bolt nuts should
be tightened to 21 ft-lb. Tighten any loose fasteners.
Step 3.
Check the U-joints for play or evidence of
looseness.
Evidence of rust indicates U-joint wear.
Attempt to
move the
propeller shaft ends in all directions to detect play or
looseness.
Replace any U-joint if play or looseness is detected. The
procedures
for replacing the U-joints can be found in paragraph 6-6,
page 6-10
of the TM.
