NOTE:
A modification of equipment set AN/UAS-12 is also used with the
G/VLLD. It is designated equipment set AN/UAS-12B. AN/UAS-12B
includes the modified night sight, AN/TAS-4B.
While the
characteristics of the modified equipment differ somewhat from
the original versions, their function with the G/VLLD is the
same. To avoid confusion, only equipment set AN/UAS-12 and the
AN/TAS-4 night sight are discussed.
The major component of the equipment set AN/UAS-12 is the AN/TAS-4 night
sight.
A portable 4.8 VDC rechargeable battery or the vehicle
conditioner power the night sight.
The vehicle conditioner converts
vehicle power to 4.8 VDC to supply the night sight. The AN/TAS-4 night
sight detects infrared (IR) energy entering the front lens and converts
it to a visible image viewed through the eyepiece.
Depending on the
distance to the target, the night sight operates with a wide field-of-
view (WFOV) or with a narrow field-of-view (NFOV). It operates with the
following optical specifications:
The night sight mount, stored in the ancillary equipment transit assembly
case of the G/VLLD, interfaces between the night sight
