System Functions.
The G/VLLD operates from the rechargeable 24 VDC battery, or from a 24
VDC vehicle power source. When used with the AN/TAS-4 or AN/TAS-4B night
sight, the G/VLLD operates with 24-hour effectiveness. A built-in laser
light filter allows the operator to use G/VLLD without wearing goggles.
The G/VLLD operates in the following modes.
a. AZ ZERO Mode. The AZ ZERO mode sets the RNG1/RNG2 mode azimuth
position reference with respect to the G/VLLD. This allows triangulation
of the G/VLLD position with respect to the grid coordinate.
b. RNG1/RNG2 Mode. The RNG1 or RNG2 mode determines target polar
coordinates (azimuth, range, and elevation) with respect to the G/VLLD
location. RNG1/RNG2 mode operation is virtually undetectable. Figure
1-5A illustrates the rangefinding application of the G/VLLD.
c. DES Mode.
In the DES mode, the G/VLLD designates a target by
providing a laser spot for the laser-seeking ordnance to home in on.
Figure 1-5B illustrates the target designation application of the G/VLLD.
