MAINTENANCE OF FORKLIFTS - OD1660 - LESSON 1/TASK 2
(7) Transmission Temperature Indicator Light (7) (figure 20 on
page 49). This indicator lights up to indicate that the transmission
is overheated.
It is electrically connected to the transmission
temperature switch located in the right side of the transmission.
The indicator lights up when the switch closes at 265F. Should the
indicator light up while operating the forklift, operation should be
stopped and the engine allowed to idle. However, if the light does
not go off, notify IDS maintenance.
d.
Operating Procedures.
(1) Starting The Engine.
WARNINGS
The noise level exceeds 85 decibels (dB) (A) at
three feet in front, 15 feet at the side, and 24
feet at the rear of the vehicle.
All personnel
shall wear a hearing protection device when
operating the vehicle.
Before starting the engine, the STEERING BYPASS
valve should be checked to ensure that it is
closed (fully clockwise) and that the shipping
locking pin has been removed.
Failure to do so
will cause loss of steering control which may
result in serious injury or death and damage to
the equipment.
(a) The shipping lock pin is removed (figure 21 on the
following page) by slipping the ring klik pin down from the body of
the shipping lock pin and removing the klik pin. The shipping lock
pin is then removed from the chassis, and the klik pin and the
shipping lock pin stored under the operators seat.
(b) The operator is to climb
into the truck and sit down in the
seat (figure 22 on the following
page).
If necessary, the seat is
adjusted by moving the lever to
the rear to release the seat for
adjustment and moving the seat
forward or backward to fit the
individual's need.
(c) The parking brake lever is then pulled back to set the
parking brake.
