In addition to the components
and systems already mentioned, the turret also contains ammunition ready
boxes and feed systems for the 25mm gun and the coax machinegun, as well as
the vehicle radios.
(7) Turret Capabilities.
Turret capabilities allow the gunner or
commander to enter the range, select the ammunition, and the rate of fire in

(8) Weapons Capabilities.
The weapons of the BFV have the following
capabilities:

The 25mm M242 chain gun is capable of defeating Soviet-built BMP
type light armor vehicles at ranges in excess of 2,000 meters.

The TOW missile can destroy heavy and medium armor and bunkers from
a minimum range of 65 meters out to its maximum effective range of 3,000
meters; in the case of the improved TOW version out to 3,750 meters.
o
The 7.62mm coaxial machinegun is an area fire weapon used to engage
personnel and wheeled vehicles when the heavier weapons are not necessary.
(9) Night Vision Devices.
Additional night vision devices, which
function by ambient light amplification, are available to the crew to aid in
target acquisition and engagement and vehicle manueverability.

The driver is provided with an AN/VVS-2 night vision device, which
is interchangeable with his center periscope.
o
The commander is provided a pair of AN/PVS-5 goggles for night
observation.
o
Two AN/PVS-4 Starlight scopes are provided for use with individual
weapons.
