INTRO TO M2/M3 BFV - OD0456 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
h.
vehicle testing has been conducted by both Food Machinery Corporation (FMC)
and the U.S. Army at every stage of vehicle development.
i.
Maintainability.
To ensure maximum availability and low deadline
rates, maintenance of the BFV has been made simpler and quicker by the use
of improved diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting procedures.
(1) Unit Maintenance.
At the unit maintenance level, automotive
maintenance
is
facilitated
by
the
use
of
the
simplified
test
equipment/internal combustion engine (STE/ICE) test set to aid in
troubleshooting and isolating electrical problems in the hull electrical
system.
Once the problem is located, corrective action is facilitated by
the extensive use of easily removable components ("Black Boxes") and quick
disconnect cables.
Like the STE/ICE, the simplified test equipment-
M1/fighting vehicle systems (STE-M1/FVS) test set can diagnose turret
electrical problems far more quickly and more accurately than could earlier
(2) Intermediate Direct Support (IDS) /Intermediate General Support
(IGS) Maintenance. Malfunctioning components are then evacuated to IDS/IGS
level, where the direct support electrical system test set (DSETS) is used
to identify the required corrective action (amount of adjustment required,
or printed circuit board to be replaced, etc.) to be taken.
