System Functions.
The G/VLLD operates from a rechargeable 24 VDC battery, or from a 24 VDC vehicle
power source using a 25-foot vehicle power cable.
The instrument is operated by
one man from a kneeling or sitting position.
When used with the AN/TAS-4 or
AN/TAS-4B night sight, the G/VLLD operates with 24-hour effectiveness. A built-in
laser light filter allows the operator to use the G/VLLD without the use of
goggles. The G/VLLD is capable of being operated in the following modes.
Figure 1-9.
Ancillary Equipment Transit Assembly.
a. AZ ZERO Mode. The AZ ZERO mode sets the RNG1/RNG2 mode azimuth position
reference with respect to the G/VLLD.
This allows triangulation of the G/VLLD
position with respect to grid north, etc.
(1) The operator visually locates the reference.
(2) The operator acquires the reference and tracks the reference on the
crosshairs.
(3) The operator then turns the TU AZ ZERO ADJ knob until the AZ readout
equals the desired reference heading.
b. RNG1/RNG2 Mode. The RNG1 or RNG2 mode determines target polar coordinates
(azimuth, range, and elevation) with respect to the G/VLLD location.
RNG1/RNG2
mode operation is virtually undetectable. Figure 1-10 illustrates the rangefinding
application of the G/VLLD.
