its section.
Introduction.
Chapter 1, the introduction, provides you with
general information about this transmission and uses pictures to
identify
the
major
assemblies
and
subassemblies
of
this
transmission. It also provides the following aids.
--
Nomenclature Cross-Reference List. Occasionally you will call
a part by a common name that is not the same as the formal name
used in the Repair Parts and Special Tools List (RPSTL). When
maintenance procedures use a common name for a part, the
Nomenclature Cross-Reference List usually provides the formal
name for the part as given in the RPSTL.
Take for example the hydrostatic pump and motor assembly. You
probably call this assembly the hydrostat.
The RPSTL calls
this unit the hydrostatic pump and motor (assembly).
If you
looked in the RPSTL for hydrostat and did not find it, then you
must go the Nomenclature Cross-Reference List to determine what
the part is called in the RPSTL.
Some common terms do not appear in the Nomenclature Cross-
Reference List or the RPSTL. Take for example the term "range
pack," which means all of the parts in one area of the
transmission (mostly clutches) that function individually or
together to vary the speed and power output or to change
forward-reverse direction.
Because "range pack" applies to
several parts and assemblies in the RPSTL, it has no specific
RPSTL name and appears only in the glossary. When you have a
term like range pack, which is not given in the Nomenclature
Cross-Reference List or RPSTL, check the glossary.

particulars about the transmission such as input horsepower,
ratio of forward and reverse ranges, oil capacity, and
transmission weight.
Troubleshooting. Chapter 2 of the TM, Troubleshooting, allows you
to systematically accomplish the following:
--
Determine the probable cause of a transmission malfunction
based on the symptoms given by the operating personnel.
