TROUBLESHOOTING THE M998 ELECT SYST. - OD1617 - LESSON 1/TASK 2
If any of the leads do not have continuity, repair the engine wiring
harness, following the procedures cited in paragraph 4-62 of the TM.
If the wiring harness is beyond repair, notify IDS maintenance.
Step 7.
If no problem is found in the glow plugs, glow plug
controller, or engine wiring harness, replace the protective control
box. The procedures for replacing the protective control box can be
found in paragraph 4-5 of the TM. After the protective control box
has been replaced, check the system for correct operation.
This is
done to verify that the malfunction has been corrected and that no
additional malfunctions exist.

WAIT-TO-START LAMP DOES NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY OR
INOPERATIVE (GLOW PLUG SYSTEM OPERATES PROPERLY.)

Step 1.
Disconnect lead 27F from the WAIT-TO-START lamp.
Using a
multimeter, check for battery voltage at lead 27F with the rotary
switch in the RUN position. If voltage is present, repair the body
wiring harness, following the procedures contained in paragraph 4-62
of the TM.
If the wiring harness cannot be repaired, notify IDS
maintenance.
WARNING
The negative battery cable must be disconnected
before
disconnecting
any
harness
from
the
protective control box, or serious injury to
personnel and/or damage to equipment may result.
Step 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and lead 571A from the
WAIT-TO-START lamp.
Disconnect the body wiring harness connector
from the protective control box.
continuity between terminal E in the body wiring harness connector at
the protective control box and lead 571A at the WAIT-TO-START lamp.
If continuity is not present, repair the body wiring harness,
following the procedures contained in paragraph 4-62 of the TM.
If
the wiring harness cannot be repaired, notify IDS maintenance. When
