TROUBLESHOOTING THE M998 ELECT SYST. - OD1617 - LESSON 1/TASK 2
WARNING
The negative battery cable must be disconnected
before
disconnecting
any
harness
from
the
protective control box, or injury to personnel or
damage to equipment may result.
Step 4.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and disconnect the
wiring harness connector at the protective control box.
Using a
multimeter, check for continuity between terminal D in the engine
wiring harness connector at the protective control box and the eight
glow plug connectors (leads 575A).  If any of the glow plug leads do
not have continuity, repair the engine wiring harness, following the
procedures in paragraph 4-62 of the TM.  If the engine wiring harness
cannot be repaired, notify IDS maintenance.
Step 5.  Using the multimeter, check for continuity between terminal
G in the engine wiring harness at the protective control box and lead
2A at the alternator.
If continuity is not present, repair the
engine  wiring  harness,  following  the  procedures  contained  in
paragraph 4-62 of the TM.  If the wiring harness cannot be repaired,
notify IDS maintenance.
Step 6.
Using the multimeter, make the following continuity checks
from the engine wiring harness connector at the protective control
box to the engine wiring harness at the glow plug controller:
(a) Terminal  C  at  the  protective  control  box
connector
to
terminal 4 at the glow plug controller (lead 570A).
(b) Terminal  B  at  the  protective  control  box
connector
to
terminal 3 at the glow plug controller (lead 459B).
(c) Terminal  H  at  the  protective  control  box
connector
to
terminal 1 at the glow plug controller (lead 573A).
(d) Terminal  A  at  the  protective  control  box
connector
to
terminal 6 at the glow plug controller (lead 569A).
