TROUBLESHOOTING THE HMMWV - OD1616 - LESSON 1/TASK 2
Step 2.
If the battery voltage is still too low, disconnect lead
in the engine harness for battery voltage with the rotary switch in
the RUN position.
If battery voltage is present, replace the 60
ampere alternator following the procedures found in paragraph 4-2,
page 4-2 of the TM, or the 100 ampere alternator following the
procedures found in paragraph 12-22, page 12-34 of the TM.
WARNING
The negative battery cable must be disconnected
before
disconnecting
any
harness
from
the
protective control box, or injury to personnel
and/or damage to equipment may result.
Step 3.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and disconnect the
engine harness connector from the protective control box. Using the
multimeter, check for continuity between pin F in the engine harness
connector and lead 568A, and between pin F and lead 5A in the engine
If continuity is present, replace the
protective control box following the procedures contained in
paragraph 4-5, page 4-12 of the TM.
If no continuity is present,
repair the engine wiring harness following the procedures in
paragraph 4-62, page 4-110 of the TM.
If the wiring harness is
beyond repair, notify IDS/IGS maintenance.

Troubleshooting the Malfunction: STARTER WILL NOT CRANK.
While
reading through the following paragraphs, refer to figure 3 on page
50.
Step 1. Using the battery tester, check the specific gravity of the
electrolyte following the procedures in paragraph 4-56, page 4-92 of
the TM.
If the specific gravity is below 1.250, charge or replace
the battery following the procedures in paragraph 4-56, page 4-92 of
the TM.
Next, remove the companion seat battery box cover, following the
procedures in paragraph 10-22, page 10-34 of the TM.
