The following safety precautions apply to the testing and troubleshooting of
the G/VLLD. Strictly observe all WARNINGS, CAUTIONS, and NOTES throughout
the testing and troubleshooting process to prevent personnel injury and
equipment damage.
WARNING
When directed by the troubleshooting procedures to
replace a component, ensure that all power has been
supply, EMI filter, and all test equipment have been
disconnected from the LD/R per the LD/R shutdown
procedures.
Then perform the indicated replacement
procedure and completely reassemble the LD/R.
In the following steps, you are going to look into the
output lens of the LD/R transceiver.
Even though
power has been turned off, be sure to wear eye
protection when looking into the transceiver.
Wait at least three minutes after disconnecting power
before looking into the transceiver.
This is to be
sure that the PFN has plenty of time to discharge
through the bleeder circuits.
CAUTION
The optical components of the LD/R are easily
contaminated.
When the electronics assembly A1 is
opened and is being tested or repaired, cover the
transceiver assembly A2 with a sheet of clear plastic
to protect optics from dust, smoke, or other foreign
matter.
Working area inside maintenance van must be
clean before opening the LD/R.
