WARNING
Push up red valve flow indicator before installing
extinguisher cylinder bottles in correct position.
Failure to reset valve may discharge extinguishers and
incorrect position may render extinguishers useless in
putting out crew compartment fires, causing serious
injury to personnel and equipment.
Now install and connect the actuator cable housing assembly (Item 9) to the
manual valve actuator guard (Item 6, Figure 17 and Item 7, Figure 18) of the
crew cylinder bottle assemblies no. 3 and no. 4 (Items 2 and 12). When the
actuator cable housing assembly is secured to the actuator guard, you may
then connect the cable assembly to the manual valve actuator guard of
cylinder bottle assemblies no. 3 and no. 4, using a washer (Item 7, Figure
17 and Item 8, Figure 18), connecting pin (Item 5, Figures 17 and 18), and a
new cotter pin (Item 8, Figure 17 and Item 6, Figure 18).
The actuator cables are now connected to the manual valve actuator guards of
crew AFES cylinder bottle assemblies no. 3 and no. 4.
Before the manual
discharge system can function properly, the actuator cable must be
readjusted at the actuator assembly (Item 2, Figure 16).
The actuator
assembly is a component of the AFES Manual Discharge System (AFES/MDS).
Three actuator cables, one from the engine AFES cylinder bottle no. 2 and
one from the crew AFES cylinder bottles nos. 3 and 4 are connected to the
AFES/MDS actuator assembly.
Cable readjustment is performed by use of
Figure 16 and the cable readjustment procedures used earlier for the engine
AFES cylinder bottles.
3.
AFES Cylinder Bottle Bracket Straps, Brackets and Mounts, Removal and
Installation.
This part of the subcourse will teach you the process of removal and
installation of AFES cylinder bottle bracket straps, brackets, and mounts.
All cylinder bottles are deactivated and then removed from the cylinder
brackets before the bracket removal process is started.
The bracket straps on all fire extinguisher brackets are removed in the same
manner.
There are no differences in fire extinguisher mounting bracket
design. The differences in the AFES fire extinguisher mounting system are
found in the types of mounts used. The differences will be noted wherever
they apply throughout this part of the subcourse.
