M2/M3 BFV: TROUBLESHOOTING - OD1610 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
To troubleshoot the brake system, the following items will be needed:
o
General mechanic's automotive toolkit
o
1/2 inch drive, 0-175 ft-lb torque wrench
o
1/4 inch drive, 10-200 in-lb torque wrench
o
1/4 inch drive socket wrench set
o
Dry cleaning solvent
o
Wiping rag
o
Nonelectrical wire
o
Self-locking nut
o
Cotter pin
o
Lockwasher
o
Helper
The vehicle should be parked with the engine stopped
and
the
FIRE
SUPPRESSION switch should be in the MANUAL position.
To begin the troubleshooting procedures, once the necessary materials have
been gathered together, press the brake pedal and release the hand brake.
After completing these two actions, SSG Taylor is asked if the hand brake
handle returns to the released position.
In this instance, the answer to
the question is yes. SSG Taylor then follows the yes arrow to the next box
of instructions.
Here, SSG Taylor is directed to press the brake pedal. Does the brake pedal
return to the released position?
In this case, yes it does.
Next, SSG
Taylor is directed to press on the brake pedal firmly. Does the brake pedal
go all the way to the floor? Again, the answer is yes. Now SSG Taylor is
directed to lower and secure the trim vane (these procedures are found on
page 2-247 of TM 9-2350-252-10-1).
After the trim vane is lowered and
secured, SSG Taylor is directed to open and secure the power unit access
door.
The procedures for performing this task are on page 2-120 of TM
9-2350-252-10-1. Once the power unit access door is open and secured, SSG
Taylor is directed to take
