M2/M3 BRADLEY FIGHTING VEHICLE: TURRET - OD1609 LESSON 2/TASK 3
Step 12.
Remove three screws, lockwashers, and washers attaching the adapter to
the slipring. Then remove the adapter from the slipring. Discard the lockwashers.
c.
Procedural Steps for Installation of the Encoder and Slipring Assembly.
Three final procedures are needed to complete the installation of the encoder and
slipring assembly.
These procedures are described in subparagraphs 2c(2) through
2c(4) below.
(1)
Installation of the Encoder and Slipring Assembly.
Step 1.
Install adapter, three washers, new lockwashers, and screws on the
slipring.
Step 2.
Install the coupling on the encoder shaft with a setscrew aligned with
the flat surface on the encoder shaft. Adjust the coupling onto the encoder shaft
so that .138 to .198 inch is between the coupling and the encoder.
Tighten two
setscrews on the top half of the coupling.
NOTE
The setscrew aligned with the flat surface on the encoder
shaft is the same setscrew that is aligned with flat
surface of the slipring shaft.
Step 3.
Set the encoder to mechanical zero setting by turning the adapter until
the flat surface of the slipring shaft can be seen in the nipple hole of the
adapter. Align the setscrew on the coupling with the flat surface of the slipring
shaft, then place the encoder on the adapter.
NOTE
Slipring, adapter, and encoder shaft must stay in the same
position set in step 3 or mechanical zero will be lost.
Step 4.
Locate two setscrews on the coupling through the plug hole on the
adapter.
Tighten a setscrew. Rotate the adapter slowly until the
