hour (mph).
The transmission incorporates a single-stage, three-
element, polyphase hydraulic torque converter with a stall torque
ratio of 3.32:1.
The torque converter also has a lockup clutch which engages
automatically in second through the fourth range.
The principal
purpose of the lockup clutch is to increase vehicle fuel mileage.
Another benefit, however, is increased transmission life through
elimination of the heat caused by torque converter slippage.
The
lockup unit consists of a friction disk that locks the turbine to the
torque converter housing.

Gear types consist of constant mesh, spur, and planetary. There are
four forward ranges and one reverse.
The range ratios are as

4.16:1
Second
2.34:1

The steering type used is an infinitely variable, hydrostatically
controlled differential with a minimum steer ratio for ranges first
through fourth and neutral as follows:
First
2.31:1
Second
1.58:1
Third
1.32:1
Fourth

The braking system is of the multiple wet plate type.
The service
brakes are applied by mechanical and hydraulic action while the
parking/emergency brake is applied mechanically and acts as a back-up
for the service brakes.
As mentioned earlier, the transmission has its own oil system with a
12-gallon capacity. It has an integral sump and a two-stage integral
oil filter with a differential pressure warning switch and an
automatic bypass.
The transmission weighs 910 pounds (dry weight).
When placed in a shipping/storage container, the combined weight is
approximately 1500 pounds.
Figure 1-4 will familiarize you with the appearance of the X200-4
transmission. Identifies the right, left, rear, and top positions.
