Screw new nuts
(2) on the studs (3) until about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch of
threads on studs shows below the nuts, and remove the rag
covering the pump opening. Then, you must position the pump
(1), with a new packing, (5) on the studs and turn the pump
clockwise until the studs slide into the narrow end of the
slots (6).
After positioning the pump correctly, screw down
the nuts and torque them between 45 - 55 foot-pounds (fig.
1-34).
CAUTION
MAKE SURE YOU CONNECTED THE THREE COUPLING HALVES
CORRECTLY. A BAD CONNECTION COULD CAUSE THE PUMP
TO RUN DRY AND BE DAMAGED.
Connect the coupling half (7) at the bracket (9) and the other
two coupling halves (10) at the pump (1).
Then tighten the
coupling half at the bracket and the four screws (10) in the
pump coupling halves (8 and 11) (fig. 1-34).
NOTE:
The pump connector (12) may be located as shown or between the
two coupling halves (11) on the pump (1) (fig. 1-34).
