Once the mechanic understands the nature of
the malfunction and has gathered the necessary tools and equipment
together,
the
next
step
is
to
configure
the
vehicle
for
troubleshooting. Configuring the vehicle for troubleshooting includes
the following:
(1) The vehicle should be parked.
(2) The parking brake should be set.
(3) The engine should be shut down.
(4) The transmission selector lever should be in the PARK position.
(5) The wheels should be chocked.
After the above procedures have been performed, the mechanic is ready
to begin troubleshooting the malfunction.

Troubleshooting and Repair
In the following paragraphs, we will troubleshoot and repair seven
malfunctions.
