Location and Description of Major Components.
(1) Engine. The engine (figure 14) is a four cylinder, in-line,
four-stroke-cycle, valve-in-head diesel engine. Air enters into the
intake manifold through a dry-type air cleaner.
An ether injection
arrangement is connected to the intake manifold for quick starting of
the engine during cold weather.

(2) Fuel System.
The fuel system consists of an electric fuel
pump, air cleaner, fuel tank, fuel filters, quick start kit, fuel
injection pump, and fuel injectors. Fuel is drawn from the fuel tank
by the electric fuel pump through an in-line fuel filter.
It is
filtered by the primary and final fuel filters, routed to the fuel
injector pump, and then applied to the fuel injectors where the fuel
is injected into the engine cylinders.
(3) Exhaust System.
This system consists of a muffler and an
exhaust pipe. The muffler is mounted on top of the engine and is of
the spark arresting type.
The engine by-products are channeled
through the exhaust manifold, muffler and the exhaust pipe.
The
muffler aids in quieting the engine noise.
(4) Cooling
System.
This
system
includes
a
radiator
mounted in the rear of the truck, thermostat and housing,
engine driven water pump, and fan.
Water is circulated through
the engine by the water pump which is belt driven by the
