(a) The service brakes are hydraulically operated and power
assisted on all wheels.
These brakes are applied by depressing the
pedal which, in turns, applies pressure to the shoe and drum at each
wheel to stop the truck and illuminate the service or blackout
lights, according to the position of the VEHICLE LIGHTS switch.
Releasing the spring loaded pedal, in turn, releases the service
effort when the engine is running.
(b) The parking brake lever is located at the right side of the
operator's seat and connected to the transmission output shaft.
Pulling the lever up applies brake pressure at the output shaft of
the transmission which, in turn, prevents the axles and wheels from
rotating. Pushing the lever down releases the parking brake.
