M2/M3 BFV ENGINE STARTING/CHARGING SYS - OD1603 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
OFF position.
Connect, the STE-M1/FVS (VTM only) to the distribution box by
installing plug W1P2 (6) (figure 1 on page 8) to jack 1A1J14 (DCA 3)(7). Perform
test number 90 (STARTER CURRENT DRAW).
Step 4.
While performing Test Number 90 (STARTER CURRENT DRAW) with the STE-
M1/FVS (VTM only) at step 3, the starter did not draw an excess of 650 amperes. As
a result of Test Number 90 not exceeding 650 amperes, the following functions must
be performed:
(1) Move the MASTER POWER switch (1)(figure 1 on page 8) to the ON position.
(2) Move the ENGINE ACCESSORY switch (3) to the ON position.
(3) Move the GEAR SELECTOR (4) to the START position for five
seconds
and
release. Normally, the starter would crank the engine at this time.
Step 5.
If the starter did not crank the engine the following functions are
performed:
(1) Move the ENGINE ACCESSORY switch (3) to the OFF position.
(2) Move the MASTER POWER switch (1) to the OFF position.
(3) Perform Test Number 68 (STARTER POSITIVE TERMINAL VOLTAGE) with the STE-
M1/FVS (VTM only), which was connected at step 3 above. Normally, Test Number 68
should provide a reading of more than 17 volts.
Step 6.
Test Number 68 did provide a reading of 17 volts or more.
Now the
following functions are performed:
(1) Remove the front power unit access panel (figure 10 on the following page).
(2) Using a multimeter measure the voltage between terminal 3W1E14 (1)(figure 11
on page 29), of the starter solenoid, and ground.
(3) Move the MASTER POWER switch (1)(figure 1 on page 8) and ENGINE ACCESSORY
switch (3) to the ON position.
