Introduction
The M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV) is an extremely important addition
to today's new action Army. In the M2 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) mode,
it provides transport for a mechanized infantry squad to and from the scene
of battle. It also allows the mechanized infantry squad to keep up with and
to continually engage the enemy. In the M3 cavalry fighting vehicle (CFV)
mode, it aids and assists the deployed infantry squads by providing fire
support. It can also move rapidly to adjust to the changing scene of the
battlefield or to pursue the enemy.
This subcourse is designed to introduce soldiers to the general
characteristics of the M2/M3 BFV, specifically:
the vehicle weight and
dimensions, vehicular performance, mission assignment, and the differences
between the M2 IFV and the M3 CFV.
This subcourse will also cover the
format and usage of the technical manuals (TMs) as they pertain to the
operation and maintenance of the M2/M3 at the unit level.
Figure 1 is an illustration of the M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle.
This
illustration will help you better understand what the vehicle looks like.
