The BFV can provide its own concealment through the use of two M257
four-tube smoke grenade launchers that are mounted on the front of the
turret. These smoke grenade launchers are capable of launching 8 L8A1
smoke grenades simultaneously.
In addition to the smoke grenade
launchers, the BFV has a smoke generator built into the exhaust system
that allows it to lay a smoke screen to cover its retreat from or
entry to the battlefield.

The M2 infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) is the version that
provides motor tranport to an infantry squad, while the M3 cavalry
fighting vehicle (CFV) provides direct fire support to already
deployed infantry squads.
