(7) Trailer Connection System
Each malfunction symptom given for an individual component or system
is followed by step(s) that should be followed to determine the cause
and the corrective action necessary to remedy the problem.
Before
taking any action to correct a possible malfunction, the following
rules should be followed:
Rule 1.
Question the operator to obtain any information that night
help in determining the cause of the malfunction.
Rule 2.
Never overlook the chance that the problem could be of
simple origin. The problem could be corrected with minor adjustment.
Rule 3.
Use all senses to observe and locate the trouble.
Rule 4. Use test instruments and gages to help determine and isolate
the problem.
Rule 5.
Always isolate the system where the malfunction occurs and
then locate the defective component.
Rule 6.
Use standard automotive theories and principles
when
troubleshooting the systems covered in this subcourse.
In this section of the lesson, the procedures used to actually
troubleshoot the electrical system will be discussed.
There are
twenty-four possible malfunctions that could be troubleshot for the
entire electrical system on the HMMWV.
However, we will only cover
eleven of these. It should be noted that throughout the procedures,
we will cover each step or pathway for the malfunction specified. In
this subcourse the referenced "TM" is to TM 9-2320-280-20, unless
otherwise stated.

The two possible malfunctions
that could be encountered in this system are:
(1) Malfunction: ALL ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INOPERATIVE.

malfunction, refer to figure 2 on page 12.
