TROUBLESHOOTING THE M998 ELECT SYST. - OD1617 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
Step 4. Disconnect lead 14A from the neutral start switch, and with
the rotary switch in the START position, check for battery voltage at
lead 14A. If voltage is present, check the neutral start switch for
continuity.
Ensure that the neutral start switch is mechanically
activated.
If continuity is not present, replace the neutral start
switch, following the procedures contained in paragraph 5-5 of the
TM. Then reconnect the neutral start switch leads 14A and 14B.
Step 5. Disconnect the rotary switch lead 14A and, with the rotary
switch in the START position, check for battery voltage at terminal
S.
If voltage is present, repair the body wiring harness from the
neutral start switch to the rotary switch, following the procedures
in paragraph 4-62 of the TM. If the wiring harness is beyond repair,
notify IDS maintenance.
Step 6. Disconnect lead 11A at the rotary switch and check lead 11A
for battery voltage.
If voltage is present, replace the rotary
switch, following the procedures found in paragraph 4-7 of the TM.
WARNING
The negative battery cable must be disconnected
prior to disconnecting any harness from the
protective control box, or injury to personnel,
and/or damage to equipment any result.
Step 7.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery and
disconnect the protective control box cannon plugs from the
protective control box. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the
battery.
Now check pin E of the engine wiring harness cannon plug
for battery voltage.
If voltage is present, check for continuity
from pin G on the protective control box wiring harness cannon plug
to lead 11A of the rotary switch. If continuity is present, replace
the protective control box, following the procedures in paragraph 4-5
of the TM.
If continuity is not present, repair the body wiring
harness, following the procedures contained in paragraph 4-62 of the
TM.
If the wiring harness cannot be repaired, notify IDS
maintenance.
