TROUBLESHOOTING THE HMMWV - OD1616 - LESSON 1/TASK 2
Step 1. Disconnect the engine wiring harness connector from the glow
plug controller.
Using a multimeter, check the controller for the
following:
o Continuity between pin 2 and pin 6.
o The resistance between pin 2 and pin 3 should be approximately
0.5 Ohms.
o The resistance between pin 4 and pin 5 should be 27 Ohms.
o The resistance between pin 1 and pin 5 should be 130 Ohms.
Using a multimeter, check for continuity between terminal 5 at the
glow plug controller connector and ground. Repair the engine wiring
harness, following the procedures in paragraph 4-62, page 4-110 of
the TM, if continuity is not present.
If the wiring harness is
beyond repair, notify intermediate support (IDS/IGS) maintenance.
Remember that the negative battery cable must be disconnected before
disconnecting any harness from the protective control box, or injury
to personnel or damage to equipment may result.
Disconnect the negative battery cable and disconnect the wiring
harness connector at the protective control box. Using a multimeter,
check for continuity between terminal D in the engine wiring harness
connector at the protective control box and the eight glow plug
connectors (leads 575).
If any of the glow plug leads do not have
continuity, repair the engine wiring harness following the procedures
in paragraph 4-62, page 4-110 of the TM.
If the engine wiring
harness cannot be repaired, notify IDS/IGS maintenance.
Using the multimeter, check for continuity between terminal G in the
engine wiring harness at the protective control box and lead 2A at
If continuity is not present, repair the engine
wiring harness, following the procedures in paragraph 4-62, page 4-
110 of the TM.
If the wiring harness cannot be repaired, notify
IDS/IGS maintenance.
