connecting plug W5P1, care must be taken not to bend or break pins.
Once plug W5P1 has been connected to jack J1 on the VTM, remove the
forward battery compartment cover.
The procedures for removing the
battery box cover were covered in paragraph 4a on page 5 of lesson 1
and will not be repeated here.
WARNINGS
Use caution when working with tools or other
metal objects around battery posts and cables.
They can short circuit causing burns or injuries.
Do
not
wear
jewelry
when
working
on
the
electrical system.
Do not allow sparks near batteries as they can
explode causing injury.
Battery acid can cause
burns or blindness. Do not get acid on the skin
or near the eyes.
Now clamp the red lead (1) (figure 36 on the following page) of cable
W5 (2) on the positive terminal clamp (3). Then clamp the black lead
(4) of cable W5 (2) on the negative terminal clamp (5).
The display
should show .8.8.8.8 and then change to four dashes (- - - -).
If
the display is not blank, but does not read .8.8.3.8 and then - - - -
, write up a DA Form 2404 on the faulty VTM display and report the
problem to your supervisor. If the display is blank, go to the STE-
M1/FVS (VTM only) blank display diagnostic troubleshooting on page 3-
903 of TM 9-2350-252-20-1-1.
Once the proper display has been received, perform the VTM confidence
test.
The
switches on the VTM to 66.
Now press the TEST button on the VTM.
The display on the VTM should show 0066. Now perform VTM confidence
test 99. This is done by setting the TEST SWITCHES on the VTM to 99.
Then press the TEST button.
The VTM display should flash some
numbers and then show
