MAINTENANCE OF M939 SERIES VEHICLES - OD1661 - LESSON 1/TASK 1
(3) Performance.
Fully loaded, the M931 and M932 tractor trucks
reach a maximum speed of 54 miles per hour.
They will climb road
grades as steep as 23 with fully loaded semitrailers.
The vehicle
can ford hard-bottom water crossings up to 30 inches without a
deepwater fording kit and 78 inches with the kit.
Both trucks are
equipped with dual fuel tanks.
The maximum cruising range fully
loaded is 300 miles.
Without trailers, the trucks will cover 350
miles per tank of fuel. The turning radius of the M931 is 35 feet 6
inches. The turning radius of the M932 is 36 feet 6 inches.
(4) Special limitations.
The fifth wheel cannot pivot more than
21 up, 15 down or 7 sideways.
For this reason, semitrailer
operations cross-country are limited to easy grades over known
terrain.

Medium Wrecker:
M936 W/W (figure 6 on the following page).
(1) Purpose of the Vehicle.
The M936 medium wrecker is used to
recover disabled vehicles.
It is also used to free mired vehicles,
(a) Removing and replacing engines, powerpacks, and gun tubes.
(b) Loading and unloading of munitions, such as missiles.
(2) Performance.
With or without a towed load, the M936 medium
wrecker will reach a maximum speed of 54 miles per hour. The vehicle
is equipped with dual fuel tanks. The two tanks extend the vehicle
cruising range to 400 miles with a towed load and 500 miles without.
While towing, the vehicle will climb road grades as steep as 25. The
vehicle wrecker crane rotates 360 with 45 of elevation.
Turning
radius of the M936 is 39 feet.
